UNRELENTING KANPUR Municipal Corporation (KMC) employees under the banner of Karamchari Sanyukt Sangh on Monday created a ruckus and indulged in heated exchange of words with the police officials over their plan to meet Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav with their charter of demands.

The CM was in the city to attend a function at Chandrashekhar Azad Agriculture and Technology University.
Led by Ram Gopal Samudra, Mohan Singh Yadav and Baburam Baghmar, the employees boycotted work at the civic body. They were demanding payment of three-months’ salary and 14 months’ pension to the pensioners.
In the morning, the union leaders threatened to resort to general strike from today itself if they were not allowed to meet the CM. The employees had even walked up to the CSA University to meet the CM but they were not allowed by the district and the police administration. This enraged the employees who indulged in heated exchange of words with the police. The employees were pacified only when they were allowed to take out a procession, however, only up to the official residence of Municipal Commissioner Arvind Singh. The employees even shouted anti-commissioner slogans and demanded immediate disbursement of their salaries.
The employees’ leaders said that deducting provident fund and insurance amount from the salary of the employees and not depositing the same was an offence and a criminal case could be filed against those responsible for the offence. They also demanded an inquiry against Chief Accountant PN Singh for his alleged involvement in several bungling.

However, after a while, a phone call from the district administration allowing three leaders to meet the CM pacified the employees.
The same was also sent in writing by the district administration.
After creating a noisy scene at the Municipal Commissioner’s residence, three leaders— Ram Gopal Samudra, Mohan Singh Yadav and Baburam Baghmar, accompanied by police, went to the venue. They handed over a 34-point-charter of demands to the officials to be forwarded to the CM. The leaders also threatened to resort to general strike from January 8 if their demands were not met by January 7 by the KMC authorities.
