Although municipal commissioner Arvind Singh took a tough stand and suspended two employees, the Sanyukt Karamchari Sangh was in no mood to relent. The KMC building wore a deserted look as doors of most sections remained locked.

The employees have been demanding disbursement of pending three months’ salary and FIR against chief account officer PN Singh for alleged misappropriation of the State Finance Commission funds.

The agitated employees even deflated tyres of dumpers at the Bhagwat Das Ghat rubbish removal workshop following reports the Municipal Commissioner Arvind Singh would himself lead a group of employees to ensure operation of the dumpers to clean up roads.

Addressing a gathering, Sanyukt Karamchari Sangh leader Baburam Baghmar said several promises were made by the KMC authorities for payment of salary but nothing was done so far.

He said the suspension of the two employees by the municipal commissioner on Friday would add fuel to the fire. He said, “Any action by the management will only intensify the agitation.” He said if the employees’ demands were not accepted, the union would gherao Singh’s residence on Monday.
