The victim has been identified as Sujit Kumar Choudhury. Choudhury was living alone after his divorce.

The body was found in his flat on Kedia Road. While the flat was locked from inside, the police found multiple injury marks all over the body.

“We are yet to decide whether it is a murder or a suicide. While the locked door points to a suicide, the slit throat and injury marks point to murder,” said a senior police officer.

Forensic experts have been called in and the body was sent for a post mortem and a viscera test. The results would provide vital clues to the investigating officers.

A neighbor who had came to meet Choudhury in the evening first raised the alarm when even after repeated attempts he failed to get any response from inside.

It was the police who broke open the door and recovered the body lying in a pool of blood. A vegetable knife, a blade and a pair of scissors were also recovered from the room.

“A person committing suicide by slitting his own throat is amongst rarest of the rare cases. We have not come across any suicide note yet,” a police officer said.
