KoPT, which owns the land, had last week asked Britannia to empty the plot in the next 15 days.

"It is an eviction decree, issued on October 14, by the estate officer appointed under the Public Premises Act and the company has been given 15 days to vacate," KoPT land manager A K Mehera told PTI.

He said the dues, which have accumulated since 1997 owing to non-acceptance of rent revision as per the lease agreement, amounted to Rs 13 crore including penalty.

Confirming the development A BIL spokesman said Britannia Industries Limited (BIL) had on October 16 received an eviction notice from KoPT requiring the company to vacate by October 31, 2009.

The spokesman said, "The BIL would take necessary steps to protect the company against the draconian action whilst ensuring that the legitimate and fair interests of its employees are safeguarded."

The factory is housed in an area of over 45,400 square metres.
