The petitioners were demanding re-investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by an officer of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

The court said it lacked the authority to order a probe by the SIT.

Parvez Imroz, counsel for the victims, today said a protest petition was filed on June 10 this year against the closure report of the Jammu and Kashmir police, before the Judicial Magistrate, Kupwara.

He said on June 13, the Chief Prosecuting Officer (CPO) filed objections, and oral arguments were exchanged before the Magistrate yesterday.
