"We have decided that our principal, three teachers are to continue. They are innocent till proved guilty," the school's governing body secretary Supriyo Dhar told newspersons after its meeting "There is no question of action against them, they are one of us," Dhar asserted.

Principal Sunirmal Chakraborti and three other teachers were arrested yesterday on charges relating to the caning of Rawanjit Rawla, a student who had allegedly committed suicide four days after he faced corporal punishment for misbehaviour in school in February. The teachers were L J Gunnion, head of middle school, and Partha Dutta and David Ryan.

The four were charged under section 324 of IPC for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, apart from provisions under the Juvenile Justice Act.
