The Jammu and Kashmir government plans to make the frontier region of Ladakh as an international and national tourism hub round the year by increasing connectivity and developing infrastructure, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said.
"Miseries of winter and heavy snowfall taking place in many areas of Leh and Kargil have to be converted into comforts by cultivating adventure tourism and providing necessary infrastructure," Azad said while addressing a public meeting at Padum-Zanskar in Kargil district on Saturday.
He said that connectivity to the areas of Leh and Kargil was of vital importance for making the region a tourism hub, adding that his government has taken measures to upgrade the roads and open up the areas for development avenues.
"Upgradation of Kargil-Zanskar road and construction of several link roads in the area are significant steps in this direction," Azad noted.
Being the land of sufis and saints, the state has always extended hospitality and comfortable environment to every culture to flourish in amity, presenting a beautiful mosaic of colourful traditions living together, he said.
The chief minister said that the extension of education and healthcare facilities in remote areas are priority sectors and steps are afoot to carry every sort of development to the hilly and backward areas.
