Laloo, Rudy launch door to door campaign in Chapra

Railway minister and RJD nominee for Chapra Lok Sabha seat Laloo Prasad Yadav and BJP candidate Rajiv Pratap Rudy launched intensive mass contact programme on Saturday on the last day of campaigning for Chapra seat which is going for repoll on May 31.

Riding on his "garib chetna rath", the RJD supremo addressed a large number of street corner meetings and launched door-to-door campaign in Chapra assembly segment on Saturday appealing to the people to strengthen the newly formed United Progressive Alliance (UPA), of which RJD is a constituent.
The Railway minister, who is moving around in the Chapra Lok Sabha seat since Friday, is promising bringing railway line in the areas deprived of it besides his usual barb against NDA.
Besides, Yadav, over two dozen ministers and legislators of the ruling RJD, including Chief Minister Rabri Devi's controversial brothers, Sadhu Yadav (MP from Gopalganj) and Subhas Yadav, MLC, is wooing voters in favour of Laloo Yadav.
NDA is also leaving no stone unturned to check RJD-led secular alliance winning streak in the general election.
Besides, Rudy, former Union ministers, Nitish Kumar and Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP MP from Bhagalpur Sushil Kumar Modi and JD (U) MP Prabhunath Singh and other BJP and JD(U) leaders launched mass contact programme in favour of Rudy.
After countermanding April 26 poll in Chapra on the ground of large scale rigging and booth capturing, the Election Commission had ordered repoll in the entire nearly 1200 polling booths in Chapra on May 31.
Meanwhile, the district administration has made fool-proof arrangements for the repoll in Chapra.
All the 60 companies (one company comprises of 100 personnel) of Central Para-Military Force, sanctioned for the Chapra repoll, have been deployed in different areas to ensure free and fair conduct of poll on Monday, official sources said.
Presiding Officers drawn from Central government services were also being sent to their respective destinations, they said.
The six Observers appointed to supervise election in Chapra on May 31 have arrived here.
The state government had ordered closure of all government and non-governmental institutions except for those dealing in the emergency services on May 31 in view of the election.
Besides, Laloo Yadav and Rajiv Pratap Rudy, six other candidates including Abhay Rajkishore of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Bachhu Prasad Veeru of Samajwadi Party (SP) and four independents are in the fray for the Chapra Lok Sabha seat.
