The service will link the seacoast temple town of Tiruchendur in Tuticorin to the state capital.

According to a release, the train would cater to the needs of people of Kayalpattinam, Arumuganeri, Nazareth and Seydunganallur.

The MG track linking Tirunelveli and Tiruchendur was laid in 1923. It had been converted into BG track at a cost of Rs.118-Crore, and was opened for traffic in September 2008 with the operation of three passenger trains.

The Tiruchendur-Chennai Egmore weekly train would be flagged off on the inaugural day at 1.45 pm and it would reach Chennai-Egmore at 6.20 am next day.

But from February 12, on every Thursday, it would leave Tiruchendur at 7.15 pm and reach Chennai-Egmore at 9.20 am the next day. In the return direction it would leave Chennai-Egmore (on Fridays) at 3.40 pm and reach Tiruchendur at 6.45 am next day.
