A politician is trying hard to get a Waqf flat allotted to his name. The flat bearing 79-B, is located in Civil Lines. Though a tenant is living in this flat, the district administration has submitted its report stating that the woman, who is residing there since 1965, is an illegal occupant.

Contrary to it, the woman claimed that the flat, allotted to her husband in 1965, is Waqf property. Therefore, it could not be sold or transferred to any other person.

She said that the rent control officer issued a notice to her on June 15 asking her to appear before the court.

Sources said that the politician concerned submitted an application on April 26, 2006 for allotment of the to his name.

In another case, a land mafia is trying to grab 8000 sq feet land in Kunti Nagar colony under Gorakhnath police station. A delegation led by city unit president of the Samajwadi Party (SP) Minority Cell Haji Iqbal Ahmad, Imamauddin Ansari, Talimuddin Ansari and others handed over a memorandum to the ADM (city) Praveen Kumar, requesting him to stop the illegal possession of the land.

After a few years, all these members sold their flats to the residents of a nearby colony.

Sources said that the 16-member committee of LIC employees left 8000 sq feet land for park. Those who purchased the flats sold by the LIC employees decided to set up a madrasa but recently a land mafia started the construction of a boundary wall. This was strongly opposed by the local people. The apathetic attitude of district police towards the issue has aggravated the situation that may take a serious dimension.
