Law college clash: 29 students granted bail

The Madras High Court granted conditional bail to 29 law students, who were arrested in connection with the November 12 clash between two groups of students of the Dr Ambedkar Law College in Chennai.

The Madras High Court on Friday granted conditional bail to 29 law students, who were arrested in connection with the November 12 clash between two groups of students of the Dr Ambedkar Law College in Chennai. Granting them bail, Justice T Sudanthiram directed them to furnish personal bonds for Rs 10,000 each with one surety each for a like sum to the satisfaction of the city's seventh Metropolitan Magistrate.

The Judge also ordered them to visit any public library on Saturdays and Sundays for four weeks and submit a report.

Parents and relatives of the students who spent over 55 days in prison, have filed affidavits to take care of their respective wards.

The Judge also granted bail to 11 of the 29 students arrested in connection with an assault on an Assistant Commissioner of the city police in 2007. Three students suffered serious injuries in the clash.
