UNION MINISTER of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal on Friday said the law and order situation had deteriorated in the State. There was no improvement in the situation despite repeated warning in that regard by the Centre.
Talking to mediapersons, Jaiswal said the Centre was not in favour of any action under Article 356 of the Constitution against an elected government. The people of the state should decide the fate of an elected government, said Jaiswal. If the State Government had heeded the Centre’s advice, there would have been an improvement in the situation, said Jaiswal adding UP was becoming backward in every sphere.
Replying to a question about Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s assertions that the Centre was not giving any assistance to the State, Jaiswal said the Chief Minister’s statement was not based on facts.
The Centre was giving all possible help to the State, he said. Chief Minister should come out with specific examples before making any such statement, said Jaiswal.
Referring to Naxal-related problem, Jaiswal said the problem was restricted to parts of Mirzapur, Chandauli and Sone Bhadra districts. Various schemes sponsored by the Centre were already being implemented in Naxal-affected areas, he said adding efforts should be made to provide employment to the locals.

Jaiswal also said that the Centre accepted the State Government’s report with regard to implementation of various schemes. However, UP had a poor record in implementing central schemes in the Naxal-affected areas.
