Lawyers went on strike and staged dharna in protest against the killing of an advocate in Varanasi by some unidentified persons in his chamber, police said on Wednesday.

Advocate Anjani Singh was shot dead by some unidentified persons in his chamber at Chaukaghat area last night, they said.

SP City Rajiv Malhotra said that the incident came to the light after Singh's son found him dead in his chamber.

The matter is being investigated and the culprits will be apprehended soon, he said.

Agitated over the incident, the lawyers boycotted work in the district courts and staged a demonstration demanding arrest of the assailants.
