Leh, in Ladakh region of the state, witnessed the coldest night of the season so far with the mercury plummeting to minus 12.6° Celsius as the cold wave continues to grip the Valley as most parts registered sub-zero temperatures on Sunday.
A meteorological official said the minimum temperatures in all the other places in the Valley increased slightly though most of them stayed below the freezing point.
Kargil recorded a low of minus 7.0° Celsius compared to Saturday night's minus 7.8° Celsius, the official said.
The minimum temperature in summer capital Srinagar remained almost same as the previous night's low of minus 2.7° Celsius, as the mercury settled at a low of minus 2.6° Celsius, he said, adding it was two degrees below the normal for this part of the season.
The official said the night temperature in Pahalgam, a tourist resort which serves as a base camp during annual Amarnath Yatra, increased from previous night's low of minus 4.6° Celsius to settle at a low of minus 3.8° Celsius. The minimum temperature in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg settled at 0.8° Celsius, as against previous night's minus 0.2° Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Kupwara increased almost a degree to register a low of minus 2.4° Celsius, while Qazigund-the gateway town to Kashmir-recorded a low of minus 2.8° Celsius.

The MeT department has predicted dry conditions to persist for a few more days with the minimum temperatures continue to hover around the freezing point.
