CHANCELLOR TV Rajeswar directed Lucknow University (LU) administration that if Rajiv Nayan, head of Art and Craft department, College of Arts and Craft is the senior most faculty member of institution, then as per University rules and regulations he be made the ‘dean’ of the Arts and Craft faculty.
The Governor further ordered that Nayan be given the charge of principal of Arts College for being the dean of the college. The LU authorities confirmed they had come to know about the directive and the decision in this regard would be taken soon.
The Chancellor’s directive came after Nayan’s representation which challenged the decision of the LU administration to take direct control of Arts College after the term of the principal/dean BN Shukla was over.
Elated with the decision, Nayan said: “His excellency has done justice to him.
This decision now means that the committee constituted by LU last month to undertake the administrative, development, renovation work and of course the control of Fine Arts faculty now stands null and void.”
Ever since LU passed order to take over Arts College after the retirement of BN Shukla, there has been quite a heart burning amongst the present and former teachers of the college. They feared it would adversely hit the autonomy of the college. Aggrieved teachers then sought intervention of the Executive Council members of LU who also appealed to the Governor to look into the matter.
