Let there be a floor test in K’taka, else the UPA will be on the mat

The request of the governor of Karnataka to the Union home ministry to impose President’s Rule in the state shows his eagerness to dislodge the state government on unconvincing grounds (Centre not for Prez rule in Karnataka, May 17). The Congress knows that it will be naïve to act on HR Bhardwaj’s request, as it will jeopardise the party’s future in the state. Bhardwaj should ask for a floor-test in the assembly to determine the fate of the Karnataka government instead of making unreasonable demands to the Centre.

Study the nuances of war

With reference to Sanjib Kr Baruah’s report Op Neptune Spear: From war theatres to classrooms (May 9), I agree that Operation Geronimo will make for a good case-study for our jawans — in the same way as Operation Entebbe that was conducted by Israeli commandos in 1976 and in which 102 out of 105 hostages were successfully rescued. At a time when terrorism is spreading fast and wide, our jawans should be prepared for all possible threats. India is as capable of carrying out surgical strikes as the US; we just lack political will.

Adding more fire to the fuel

The recent increase in petrol prices should be condemned by one and all. It will worsen the economic burden on the common man. The Congress, instead of fighting corruption and resolving the issue of black money, is fuelling inflation with its policies.
