LG re-enters notebook biz, aims to be in top 5 by 2014

South Korean technology major LG Electronics on Wednesday announced its re-entry into notebooks business in India, around two years after its exit in 2009. The company has introduced products especially for the Indian market as it eyes to be among top five notebook players in the country by 2014.

South Korean technology major LG Electronics on Wednesday announced its re-entry into notebooks business in India, around two years after its exit in 2009. The company has introduced products especially for the Indian market as it eyes to be among top five notebook players in the country by 2014.

"We are eyeing revenues of around Rs2,000 crore from our IT division by 2014. Sales from notebooks are expected to contribute a significant chunk of this revenue," Sanjoy Bhattacharya, IT group head for LG Electronics India told HT. LG India expects revenues from its IT division to be around Rs885 crore for calender year 2011.

"This time our notebooks and services associated therein are customised according to the Indian consumers," said Bhattacharya. He explained that the company is offering insurance facilities on the purchase of laptop and notebooks at no additional price.

The company, plans to launch its brand of Tablet PC by early next year.
