Life in the Kashmir Valley returned to normal on Wednesday, after three days of curfew-like restrictions imposed by authorities and strike called by separatists to mark the death anniversaries of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru and JKLF founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat
Unprecedented security arrangements were made in the valley since February 9, and the valley remained paralysed for three-days.
Guru was hanged last year on February 9, while Bhat was executed on February 11 three decades ago. Both Guru and Bhat were executed inside the Tihar Jail, and their mortal remains were buried inside the hail.
Separatists keep demanding the return of mortal remains of Guru and Bhat, on their anniversaries. The shutdown and the stringent security measures brought the life to a standstill in the last three days.
There were sporadic incidents of stone-pelting by supporters of Guru and Bhat.
However, life returned to normal, after three days, with government offices, business centres and banks functioning normally.
Banks and petrol pumps witnessed rush after the three-day closure.
The authorities have started releasing the detained separatist leaders. Around 100 separatists, including senior separatist leaders, were taken into the preventive custody. Leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were placed under house arrest.
