There is not let up in the heat wave that has had Jammu in its grip for the past five day, as the winter capital recorded a maximum temperature of 45.5°C on Friday, with minimum being 26.3°C. The maximum temperature dipped by .3°C from Thursday evening.
The temperature has hovered around 45°C in the entire week, which has also hit the normal life. Taking note of severe heat wave condition, the state government on Friday ordered summer vacations from June 3 to July 21. The authorities had already advanced the school closing timing by one hour.
The heat wave condition coupled with unscheduled power cuts and erratic water supply have thrown the normal life out of gear. Even though the power situation is much better than the last year, but even then the four to five hour cuts are reported in every locality of Jammu and at some places water is being supplied every alternate day.
Business has been severely hit by the scorching heat as normal movement on roads comes alive after sunset only.
However, the metrological department has predicted rains from May 25. A Met official says western disturbances had strengthened and they were likely to bring showers in the state and parts of north Indiam which will bring down the temperature.
