The Government has provisioned extension of contract to existing shop owners for another year if they agree to pay 20 per cent more than the bidding prize on which liquor shops were allotted to them last year.
Under this policy, the Government has invited applications from existing shop owners for extension of contract. So far, results to this offer have been encouraging, said an official spokesperson today. At Bhopal, 144 shop owners have applied for renewal of contract.
On acceptance of these applications, the State Government would earn revenue of Rs 88 crore. All over the State, 1300 shop owners have applied for renewal of contract, which constitutes 40 per cent of the total retail liquor shops in Madhya Pradesh. Last date for submission of application for renewal is February 10.
The State Government hopes to earn an additional Rs 415 crore this financial year in the form of excise revenue through this provision. Among other big centres, 555 existing liquor shop owners in Gwalior division have applied for renewal of contract.
It will earn the Government revenue of over Rs 100 crore. In Ujjain division, 259 liquor shop owners have applied for renewal, promising a revenue of Rs 80 crore to the State Government.
In Indore division, 237 shop owners have applied for renewal of contract, fetching the State Government Rs 113 crore. At other places also, liquor shop contractors have responded positively to the State Government’s offer, said the spokesperson.
