LJP threatens agitation if quota demand not met

Apart from job reservations, the party also seeks reservation for women in the Parliament and Legislative Assemblies.

The Lok Janshakti Party, headed by Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, threatened on Thursday to launch a nation-wide agitation if its demand for job reservation in the private sector was not met.

The party has also been demanding a quota for Dalit Muslims and Christians in government posts.

"LJP calls upon the Centre to initiate immediate legislative steps to incorporate reservation in the private sector for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, and also a ten per cent quota for the economically poor among the upper castes," Paswan said.

The party demanded that the Centre should take immediate steps to constitute a Most Backward Classes Commission to enable their social and economic advancement.

It also sought reservation of women in the Parliament and State Assemblies and suggested that the controversial issue be resolved amicably by increasing the number of seats by one third to make room for the fairer sex.
