LMC ready for swearing-in

THE LUCKNOW Municipal Corporation (LMC) is all decked up for the swearing-in ceremony of its 16th Mayor and 110 newly elected corporators on Tuesday. The function scheduled for 5 pm would be held in Jhandiwala Park opposite the LMC headquarters here.

Though invites have been sent to almost all important government functionaries and ministers, the oath-taking ceremony is all set to be an out-an-out BJP show with members of the ruling party likely to stay away from the function. A notable absentee, according to LMC sources, would be Urban Development Minister Mohd Azam Khan.

In contrast, a host of senior BJP leaders, like party president Rajnath Singh, Kalraj Mishra, Lalji Tandon, Keshri Nath Tripathi and of course, the outgoing Mayor Dr SC Rai are expected to grace the occasion. In fact, it was Dr Rai, who had expressed his desire much before the requisite notification for the constitution of local bodies was issued by the Election Commission that the swearing-in should be held on Tuesday.

Inside the LMC building, the whiff of fresh paint and varnish is all pervading as rooms of all the officials, including the Mayoral chamber, have been done up.

The Trilok Nath Hall too has been given a fresh coat of paint, new lights and fans as Dr Sharma is expected to convene the first House session very soon.

The old Mayoral robe has been replaced with a new shiny black one. The Mayor’s room on the first floor of LMC building has also been redone with new telephones and all other sundry trappings.
