There were 228 candidates in the fray for 8 municipal boards and 336 candidates for 18 nagar panchayats. About 2.5 lakh voters were eligible to excercise their franchise to elect their local body leaders in 564 polling stations, official sources said.

In a view to smoothly conduct the elections, security has been tightened up in the state today. Security personnel were deployed in and around all the polling stations, state election official sources said.
