Revamping immigrations offices in the country, especially those in Punjab and Kerala that have a huge population of immigrants, is top priority for the ministry along with the plight of immigrants cheated by agents and that of women who are married to NRIs.

"There is huge amount of corruption in the immigration offices. I am going to completely overhaul these offices and computerize them. There will be immigration offices in every zone," said Tytler.

He is determined to crack down on agents and touts who cheat young men and women by sending them to Gulf countries promising them good jobs.

"Their conditions are horrible. I met many of them while I was there. Their passports are taken away and they are exploited in every way possible. We have to put an end to this," says Tytler.

"Before anyone gets their daughter married to an NRI, they could get in touch with my ministry and get information about the person on payment. We will find out if the guy is married, whether he has a job and such details. In short my ministry or embassy will certify the guy," says Tytler adding that it was a cumbersome job but one which had to be done on humanitarian grounds.

"There are over 10,000 such young girls who have been cheated by NRIs. The grooms have gone back abroad abandoning their wives back home. Many of these girls are even pregnant. Something has to be done for them," says Tytler.
