They conveyed the same to the government, which had asked for their suggestions.

The schools said conducting a lottery within various categories for nursery admission, as suggested by the human resource and development (HRD) ministry’s guidelines under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, is unjust.

"The point system is the most transparent, child-friendly, rational and objective way for nursery admissions. Parents have a fair idea whether their child will make it to a particular school in the point system and hence they apply accordingly. But with lottery system one is left at the mercy of luck and parents will be subjected to insurmountable anxiety," said Ameeta Wattal, secretary of National Progressive Schools’ Conference and principal of Springdales School, Pusa Road.

She also added that public schools be allowed to retain the management quota.
