Regarding the LTTE’s apology, India should not react hastily. This is a complex issue and India cannot commit mistakes in mediating in the conflict between the LTTE and the Lankan army.

Talking corruption
This refers to the report Lyngdoh leads fight against graft (June 26). All members of the movement have occupied important positions in the corridors of power. Why did they not take any initiative to curb corruption when they were in power? How did they rise to the top in a system where one cannot do so without making compromises?

Media’s one-sided role
AG Noorani in Lost innocence (June 27) has criticised the media for interfering in high-profile court cases and not helping in a fair and free trial except in the Jessica Lall murder case. The media which should bring to light the problems of the common people are instead indulging in yellow journalism for the sake of higher TRP and circulation figures.

Rajdeep Sardesai’s article Nothing called a free kick (June 23) cites Japan’s example of a country succeeding in improving its soccer performance. We can also take the case of Trinidad and Tobago which is a small nation and has managed to reach the World Cup finals. I think political interference is the biggest bane of Indian football.
