Justice MC Jain, who headed the Commission, which went into conspiracy aspect in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, has suggested that the LTTE's regret on the killing of the former Prime Minister was meaningless.

"Even that has come from Balasingham's mouth. Where is the hesitation? Why Balasingham?....There was one to one meeting between our Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Prabhakaran (heading the LTTE). He should have come out with what transpired", Justice Jain told a private news channel.

The judge said that even at this stage -- after 15 years, "they (the LTTE) should "make their breast clear completely."

The comments by Justice Jain came a day after the LTTE ideologue Anton Balasingham urged India to "put behind" Gandhi's assassination by being "magnanimous" and approached the Tamil ethnic issue in a "different perspective."
