On an average three candidates per ward were allotted free symbols. The candidates' list in every ward was arranged in alphabetical order (in Hindi) and the symbols were allotted according to the first, second and third preferences mentioned by candidates in their forms. In ward No. 5, lotteries were drawn for three symbols — sun, glass and cycle. The sun was allotted to Kavita Ahlawat, glass to Shamim Khan and cycle to Bhim Singh.

“Our enforcement teams armed with secret cameras and CID agents in disguise have been deployed in each ward. In case any candidate is caught using unfair means, such as spending more than permissible amount or defacing any poster, the person will be booked,” said ARO Satyender Duhan.

The MCG has identified sites for displaying posters, banners and hoardings in 11 wards; it will add more sites soon. The list of sites is expected to be released any time. If hoardings are displayed at other sites than these, action will be taken.
