Luxury on wheels: Nine Volvos to Chandigarh

The Millennium City is all set to get a world-class super luxury bus service, which will connect the city to Chandigarh. A fleet of nine super luxury Volvo buses of the Haryana Roadways was flagged off by Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at Haryana Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday.

These will ply from Gurgaon and Chandigarh depots. The remaining 16 buses will be launched in May. The seating capacity in the new buses has been increased from 35 to 49.

Mineral water and English/Hindi newspapers will also be provided to passengers on a complimentary basis. Commuters can book seats online on the official site of Haryana Roadways www.hartrans.gov.in.

“The 25 buses are equipped with the latest facilities and have been bought at a cost of Rs 85 lakh each,” said Rajiv Nagpal, general manager, Haryana Roadways Engineering Corporation (HREC).

“The buses will depart at 9 different timings daily from Gurgaon to Chandigarh. Seats can be booked online. The one-side fare from Gurgaon is Rs 595, while passengers of Delhi have to pay Rs 510. The buses will ply via Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, Karnal and Chandigarh,” said Singh.
