Magh Mela: Over 85,000 patients treated in a month
Setting a record of its kind, over 85,000 patients were provided free treatment at the makeshift hospital and first aid posts set up by the district health department in the 'city of tents' on the banks of river Ganga. The patients suffering from serious ailments, chest pain, skin diseases, upper respiratory tract infection, diarrhoea and joint pain were examined and also provided medicines at the district health department's hospital.

The month-long 'kalpvas' at Magh Mela concluded on Maghi Poornima and with it the district health department also made a record of providing treatment facility to such a large number of people from different states and region. As many as 32,603 patients were reported at the OPD of General Duty Hospital (GDH) on Triveni Marg. About 267 serious patients were also admitted to the hospital which started functioning on January 10. As many as 55,375 patients were examined at the Kisan Union camp and five First Aid Posts at Arail, Sangam Nose, Parade, Dandi Bara and Jhunsi. Around 45 accident victim cases, medico legal and cardiac arrest patients were referred to the Beli and Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospitals.
Of the total patients reported in one month, atleast five per cent were found suffering from skin and fungal infection including scabies. About ten per cent patients suffered from chest pain. A large number of patients complained of joint pain, fever, cough, cold, malaria and water borne diseases. A mini operation theatre was also set up at the GDH for conducting minor procedures, informed superintendent GDH Dr Manoj Verma.
"About 55,375 patients examined at the First Aid Posts and Kisan Union camp were provided high quality sample medicines.
These medicines were collected in the last one year by some of senior doctors," he said.
