THE DEATH anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was observed by various organisations in the City on Tuesday. UNIVERSAL SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT: Universal Solidarity Movement of Value Education for Peace organised an inter-school group dance competition in association with Hotel Fortune Landmark to offer tributes to the Father of Nation. Around 200 students from different schools participated in it.
St Arnold’s School emerged victorious and bagged the rolling trophy while Choithram International was the runners-up. PIB Assistant Information Officer Madhukar Pawar, Lalit Jain, Prof R D Prasad and Fortune Landmark general manager Gopi Mohan Nair graced the occasion while Prabhakar Rao welcomed the guests. Universal Solidarity Movement vice-president Dr Vandana Joshi conducted the programme and Gyanendra Purohit proposed the vote of thanks.
NSUI: National Students Union of India celebrated the death anniversary of Bapu by taking out a rally from the railway station to Regal Square. The rally was organised to spread the message of peace and brotherhood among people. NSUI spokespersons Amit Chaurasia, Mayank Joshi and Shakil Raj addressed the public.
The participants sang bhajans written by Mahatma Gandhi. They also observed a two-minute silence on the occasion. NSUI observed the day as Shahadat Diwas and would conduct several programmes like debate, cleanliness campaign, Gandhi Rath, talk show, fashion show on Khadi theme etc up to February 28. Sarvesh Tiwari, Arun Chauhan, Virendra Singh Pandey, Anish Kumar, Manish Mode, Vijay Bhuria and others participated in the rally.
KASTURBA GANDHI NATIONAL MEMORIAL TRUST: Kasturba Trust and Centre for Environment Protection Research and Development (CEPRD) organised a special programme to pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Regal Square on Tuesday. Freedom fighter Shriram Agar, Mahendra Mahajan, Indore Municipal Corporation speaker Shankar Lalwani, Bal Krishna Nilose, Shravan Patodi, Vanmala Golwalekar and Pushpa Sinha from Kasturba Trust paid tributes at the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. Girls from Harijan Sevak Sangh and Kasturba Trust held out placards with Bapu’s teachings.
