ADMINISTRIVE officials here heaved a sigh of relief after the Supreme Court granted four weeks’ time to honour its verdict in the Mahmudabad case and the subsequent contempt proceedings. The contempt proceedings were against officials who had not handed over remaining property to the heir of the Raja of Mahmudabad.
The bungalows of the chief medical officer, the senior superintendent of police, the district magistrate, the Biswan bus stand and land in Jehangirabad were earlier handed over to the Raja’s scion. But the Cooperative Sugar Mill, the Rajkiya Polytechnic Institute, and educational institutions could not be vacated due to public pressure. Sources said a solution may be found with regard to these properties before the next hearing.
District magistrate Rakesh Goel said the next hearing would be fixed four weeks from now as two officials from other districts could not appear in court. He further said the Raja had demanded vacation of all the property occupied by those who did not have valid papers, irrespective of whether such occupation began before or after 1965.
Former DM. Amod Kumar, too, said the court would fix another date after four weeks’ time in the contempt case.
