Major rivers in UP swell after heavy rainfall

With moderate to heavy rainfall lashing several parts of Uttar Pradesh, water level of major rivers continued to rise in some districts of the state, official said in Lucknow.

With moderate to heavy rainfall lashing several parts of Uttar Pradesh, water level of major rivers continued to rise in some districts of the state, official said in Lucknow.

While the water level of Ganga is going up in Fatehgarh, which received 84.6 mm rainfall and Allabahad, that of Ramganga is rising in Kalagarh in Bijnore and Moradabad districts, the Central Water Commission report said.

River Yamuna is swelling in Kalpi and Hamirpur, river Gomti in Sitapur, river Sharda at Palliakalan and Shardanagar in Kheri district and river Ghagra at Katarniya Ghat in Bahraich district, the report said.

The water level of river Rapti is rising in Balrampur district, it added.

According to the MET department, rainfall in Agra recorded 150.6 mm, Shravasti (150 mm), Raebareli (16.6 mm), Kheri (20.7 mm) and Bahraich (27 mm).

Relief Commissioner S N Shukla said so far over 1.20 lakh people from over 1500 flood hit villages had been shifted to safe places.
