Maj Sandeep Unnikrishnan, on deputation to the National Security Guard, was to visit his hometown, Beypore, in northern Kozhikode district next month, but it won’t be.

Injured during the operation to flush out terrorists from the Taj hotel in Mumbai on Thursday night, Unnikrishnan passed away on Friday morning. “We can’t believe this... He succumbed to his injuries this morning, we’ve been told,” said an inconsolable Ashok Kumar, his uncle.
