Malaysian, Indonesian registered as voters in MP

Notices have been issued to the two foreigners for hearing into the case after the discovery of their names in the electoral rolls of Ratlam district.

The discovery that two foreigners — one Malaysian and the other Indonesian have found their way into the electoral rolls and have also been issued voter identity cards in Ratlam district bordering Rajasthan has created a stir.

According to reports Malaysian Abdul Qadir and Indonesian Sheikhuddin, have been registered as voters in Khatripura Mohalla of Jaora, a tehsil in Ratlam district, which is a part of Mandsaur constituency in the opium belt that cuts into Rajasthan.

Apparently, the two had been living there since 1999 and also applied for Indian citizenship. Sources in the MP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office said that an inquiry had been conducted and notices issued to the two foreign nationals for hearing into their case.

The two had been issued ration cards by the Jaora municipal council on the basis of which they managed to get on the electoral rolls and secure voter identity cards.

The Malaysian national is registered as the 390th voter in the list while the Indonesian is 104th, sources said.

Meanwhile, sources added, Jaora sub divisional magistrate (SDM) will conduct a hearing into the case shortly.
