Man killed for Re 1 in Guwahati

It takes as little as Re 1 to kill. A conductor allegedly pushed an unidentified man from a moving bus here on Tuesday for paying Re 1 less than the fare. The man, aged about 50 years, died on the spot.

A conductor allegedly pushed an unidentified man from a moving bus here on Tuesday for paying Re 1 less than the fare. The man, aged about 50 years, died on the spot.

Police arrested the conductor named Nazrul Haque, 22, and seized the bus. The driver and handyman were absconding.

The incident occurred on the highway in front of the office of the city senior superintendent of police in central Guwahati.

“Passengers said the conductor and the victim quarrelled after the latter paid Re 1 less than the fare. The conductor subsequently pushed him off the bus. He fell under the left rear wheel and died instantly,” a police officer said.
