In a move that can be viewed as contempt of the Punjab and Haryana high court orders, a man posing himself as the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) contractor, began uploading malbas (construction waste) of dismantled buildings from the site of the proposed Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) at New Palam Vihar, terrifying residents of the area.
The residents, who have managed to secure a stay order against any construction activity on NPR, took the move assuming Huda had reinitiated action despite the court’s stay orders.
Acting on the petition of residents of New Palam Vihar, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted a stay on about 4-km stretch of the 18-km-long NPR.
It is learnt that Huda had to acquire land for construction of the NPR, nearly 4-km stretch of a 150-metre-wide road connecting Dwarka (west Delhi ) near Bijwasan with that of Expressway (NH-8) at Kherki Daula, Gurgaon.
Having seen the contractor with two trucks and labourers, residents had gathered to lodge a protest against the move. The residents stated that a heated argument also ensued between them and the contractor over the issue.
Later, they headed to the Huda office to meet the administrator and hand over a copy of the court order to him. This was done to draw the official’s attention to the issue.
