IN A bizarre incident a man claiming to be under a trance and following the orders of his family deity stabbed his wife and daughter in their house in Gurushankar Nagar on Thursday. The accused was arrested from the spot.
Chandan Nagar TI Daulat Sigh Gurjar said that the incident occurred at about 11.15 am when the accused, Kailash Rathore (40), suddenly and without incitement started stabbing his wife Ganga Bai (35). Their only daughter Neema (15), who was combing her hair in the sun outside, heard the cries of her mother and went in to help her.
Her father, possessed by a devilish frenzy, attacked her and wounded her badly and then again started to stab his wife. The girl managed to rush outside and neighbours seeing her drenched in blood rushed her to the District Hospital.
The police were later given a tip-off, while all the time the neighbours dared not venture inside the house. The police arriving at the spot promptly found the still alive woman lying in a pool of blood, while the accused was sitting in a corner brandishing his bloodstained knife. The police rushed the woman to the District Hospital where her daughter was already present.
The doctors, seeing the condition of the two, referred them to the Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Hospital (MYH) and the duo was sent there in an ambulance under escort by the police.
The girl has received wounds on the leg and abdomen, with the latter turning serious and requiring surgery, while her mother received less fatal, though more numerous, eight wounds. Gurjar said that the accused earlier worked as a labourer and had been unemployed since past two years.
He had become a Godman claiming to be a spokesman for Ramdev Baba widely worshipped in Rajasthan. His wife used to coax him to work on which they often bickered and this is considered to be the cause for this sudden outburst.
The accused has three sons and one daughter. The eldest son 16-year-old Rakesh works as a labourer and supports his six-member family on his meager earnings. A case of attempt to murder has been filed against the accused under Section 307 of the IPC and he is currently cooling his heels in the police lockup.
