"The accused has been identified as Ramdayal Kevat, aged 35 years. He knew the 13-year-old girl's family. Late Sunday, he took her to a train and tried to rape her. He pushed her out when he failed," officials at the police headquarters said.

The incident took place in a passenger train between Korba and Gevra railway stations.

The girl's father was reportedly known to the accused. The girl sustained serious injuries on her head and other parts of her body. Local people took her to a hospital where her condition was stated to be stable.
