Holding out a plethora of promises to farmers in its manifesto, JD(S) today said it would waive interest and penal interest and provide five per cent interest subsidy on loans, if voted to power in Karnataka.
The manifesto for the state assembly polls, released by former Prime Minister and JD(S) President H D Deve Gowda, promised waiver of principal amount if the interest and penal interest paid by farmers exceeded it and levy of only simple interest on loans, removing the penal interest.
A mechanism for remunerative price, creation of a "Price Stabilisation Fund" for market intervention in case of crash in prices of agricultural produce and steps to improve the power situation in two years have also been promised.
Accusing the ruling Congress of encouraging gambling,which it called a 'curse' for the poor sections, the manifesto said the party would ban online and single-digit lotteries.
JD(S) would create five lakh jobs for educated unemployed and supply rice at Rs 3.50 a kg for people living below the poverty Line, the manifesto said and charged that farmers had became 'untouchables' under the Congress rule.
