A combined team of Manipur police and troops of 32 Battalion Assam Rifles shot dead three cadres of Manipur based People’s United Liberation Front, including its commander, in an encounter in Manipur’s Imphal district.

Police said the incident took place at the foothill of Keirao when the combined team as part of their operation intercepted a maruti Gypsy (MN1A-3414) around 2.30, in the wee hours of Tuesday. “The militants travelling in the vehicle opened fire at the troops,” Colonel LM Pant, PRO, Assam Rifles said. “In the retaliatory and subsequent gunfight three militants were killed,” he added. Though one of the cadres of the People’s United Liberation Front was shot dead at the spot, two more cadres were killed at a nearby field as the area was immediately cordonned off since the operation had been meticulously planned.
