According to sources, Singh is expected in London on April 1 and leave for Delhi on April 3.

The sources said British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who is hosting the Summit at London's ExCel Centre, is keen that Dr Singh, himself an economist of repute, share his wisdom during the one-day Summit to be attended among others by the US President Barack Obama.

Brown believes that the Summit, taking place against the backdrop of exceptionally challenging economic circumstances, is an opportunity to reach a "Global deal" in which all countries have a part to play and all will see the benefits.

"Just as after the Second World War visionary leaders laid the groundwork for 30 years of prosperity and growth, built on international economic cooperation, this crisis is also an opportunity," the British government said in its report, "The road to the London Summit: The plan for recovery."
