Manmohan in Kolkata on a two-day visit

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has arrived in Kolkata from New Delhi for a two-day visit to West Bengal.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Kolkata from New Delhi on Saturday night for a two-day visit to West Bengal.

He was received by Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at the airport in Kolkata.

Immediately after his arrival, the prime minister had a brief discussion with the chief minister on the tarmac.

He later left for the Raj Bhavan where he will spend the night.

On Sunday morning, Singh will leave for Burnpur by helicopter to inaugurate a project to modernise and expand the country's oldest steel plant, Indian Iron and Steel Company (IISCO).

Later, he will return to Kolkata to inaugurate the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Indian Statistical Institute at Baranagore.
