On the eve of the Republic Day, the outlawed CPI (Maoist) took two passenger buses into their control for over two hours at Toynar in strife-torn Dantewada district, south Chhattisgarh on Sunday evening and wrote messages on it to protest against the visit of US president Barack Obama.
The rebels didn’t allow around fifty passengers on bus to get down.
“Two private passenger buses were stopped by Maoists. They wrote messages on it against the visit of the US president and observation of Republic day. The buses have reached Katekalyan police station in Dantewada late evening and all passengers are safe”, the additional director general of police (anti-Maoist operation) RK Vij told HT.
The incident has occurred when Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh is at Jagdalpur in Bastar where he will be hoisting the Republic day flag.
The Red brigade had earlier given a call to boycott the visit of Obama to India. “Obama has no moral right to touch our motherland. Against his coming to India as chief guest on Republic Day celebrations, we will observe 26th January as day of protest”, said the Maoist spokesperson Gudsa Usendi in an e-mail statement issued early this month.
Dantewada is among the seven affected district by Maoist violence in the strife-torn zone of Bastar.
