Maoists have reportedly threatened to blow up the Bihar Assembly between May 28 and July 29 and kidnap some key politicians to protest the "anti-people" policies of the Nitish Kumar government.
"According to a press release issued by Maoist rebels, Bihar's Assembly buildings would be blown up on any black night between May 28 to July 29," a local daily reported.
The statement carries the signature of Ranjana Kumari, who is in charge of the rebel squad called 'Ranvir Dasta'.
Besides threatening to abduct some key politicians, the Maoists have threatened to take control of important government installations, including the state secretariat buildings and telecommunication facilities.
Official sources on Monday said that security had been tightened in and around the Assembly buildings.
However, police chief AR Sinha said that the police were unaware of any Maoist threat against the Assembly building.
The rebels have accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government of pursuing "anti-people" policies, of harassing the poor in the name of combating Maoists and protecting the interests of the Ranvir Sena, a private militia of landed upper castes.
Only last month, over 100 suspected Maoist guerrillas had attacked a police station and a bank in Vaishali district, but failed to take away any weapons or cash.
