Marathon marks Aayaam-2006 finale

‘AAYAAM-06’, the Tech Fest of Govindram Sakseria Institute of Technology and Science, concluded today atIndore with the holding of ‘Concurs’ - a marathon for saving water. Chief guests of the valedictory function were Justice P D Mulye and college trustee Nand Kumar Sakseria.

The marathon was organised by the civil engineering department of SGSITS to create awareness on availability of water and spreading the message for its conservation. About 200 students from various colleges and senior students of several schools of the City participated in the four-km race.

Described as a ‘race to save the human race’, the marathon began in the early morning hours from the college campus, passed through Maal Godam, Regal Square, Treasure Island, 56 Shops and Abhay Prashal, and ended at the college football ground.

Student coordinator Gurpreet Singh said that Dhyanendra Singh Chandravanshi, Radheshyam Singh and Pappu Gaud came first, second and third, respectively, in the boys’ category and Sayali Nafde, Aditi Verma and Mahak Jain emerged first, second and third respectively in the girls’ category. Cricket commentator Sushil Doshi and former student ASP Rajesh Hingankar, who were chief guest and guest of honour at the event, felicitated the winners.

Yesterday’s events included a mock campus conducted by Cerebral Heights. Above 600 students from all over the State participated in the contest. This mock campus gave the students an idea about campus recruitment procedure. A blood donation programme was organised in the dynamic lab of the institute.

Nearly 250 persons, including the organisers and students, donated blood during the programme. Indore Chief Medical Officer Dr K K Vijayvargiya inaugurated the event.

Technical paper presentation programme ‘Vellum’ saw the participation of 135 students. This was followed by the Gold medal distribution ceremony wherein the students who excelled in various fields were awarded gold medals.

The laughter battle unfolded loads of fun for the audience. Other events included on-the-spot games, ACIES final, biotech activities and other events.

IIM Professor P K Chande was also present during the valedictory ceremony along with Mulye and Sakseria. Co-convener of ‘Aayaam’ Professor K Tripathi proposed the vote of thanks.
