Whatever be the reason Poonam, who is participating in the ongoing South-West Zone Inter-University Women Basketball Championship, gloriously negates the general perception that a girl’s career in sports is finished after marriage.

Her team today entered the quarterfinal round in the championship at Major Dhyanchand Ground and Poonam’s brilliant game was a source of inspiration for the teammates.

“It is wrong to assume that career of female players is finished after marriage”, said BU Director Sports Dr Akhilesh Sharma.

“I believe that there is nothing impossible in this world. Courage and will to succeed are the factors that make you successful in life”, said a beaming Poonam.

Her husband Manish Singh, who was a soccer player, provides all the necessary support for her game. “As a player I can say it is always difficult for a girl to continue playing after marriage. There are so many impediments that do not allow her to concentrate fully on game and give her best. But for Poonam my support is always there.”

“I continued my game because of the family support”, she said. Even her coach Upendra Singh Tomar is all praise for her. “Her performance and presence in the team is always encouraging for others,” he said.
