Massa crashed into a tyre wall on Saturday after the Ferrari driver was hit on the helmet by a spring that flew from the Brawn GP car of Rubens Barrichello.

"After the operation he is being cared for in intensive care and now he is in stable, satisfactory condition", Budapest's AEK military hospital said in a statement.

Ferrari meanwhile, said on Sunday that there had been "no further complications overnight" but that the 28-year-old Brazilian would undergo further scans.

"I know that Felipe was awake," Ferrari spokesman Luca Colajanni told German Press Agency DPA. "I don't know whether he will be put back in an artificial coma."

Colajanni also described as "complete rubbish" reports that Massa's teammate Kimi Raikkonen was considering not driving in the Hungarian Grand Prix later on Sunday.
