Massive protests mark trader?s death

MEMBERS OF various trade organisations staged massive demonstrations and road blockades on Tuesday to protest against the death of a trader, Ram Lakhan Jaiswal, under the custody of some trade tax officials here recently. Members of the Varanasi Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal took out a procession from Maidagin area and burnt an effigy of the trade tax officials. They were demanding arrest of the accused officers and compensation to Jaiswal?s family members.

MEMBERS OF various trade organisations staged massive demonstrations and road blockades on Tuesday to protest against the death of a trader, Ram Lakhan Jaiswal, under the custody of some trade tax officials here recently.

Members of the Varanasi Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal took out a procession from Maidagin area and burnt an effigy of the trade tax officials. They were demanding arrest of the accused officers and compensation to Jaiswal’s family members.

General secretary of the Mandal Ajit Singh Bagga said traders would stage a demonstration at Godoulia crossing on Thursday in this regard. Members of 40 trade organisations participated in the protest of the Varanasi Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal.

Among others who addressed the demonstration included Narayan Khemka, Prem Mishra, Uttam Mukherjee, Anuj Srivastava, Rishi Kesari, Suresh Tulasyan, Gokul Sharma, Rajesh Chaturvedi and Manoj Sagar.

Members of the Maidagin Vypar Mandal, led by BJP MLA Shyam Deo Roy Chaudhary, also took out a procession and staged a road blockade outside the office of the trade tax department in Chetganj area today.

Their demands included compensation of Rs 25 lakh and government job to a family member.

Mahanagar president of the organisation Vinod Gupta, Deepak Agrawal, Rajesh Sand, Mohd Aslam, Brijesh Jaiswal, Ramesh Jaiswal, Kishan Sahu, Sandeep Mishra and Sayyed Ejaz were among others who handed over the charter of demands.

To recall, Ram Lakhan Jaiswal of Lohatia area died on Saturday last when some trade tax officials forcibly tried to take him to their office for payment of pending tax. A case has been lodged against five trade tax officials on the complaint of Jaiswal’s son.
