THE FESTIVE season came to an abrupt end for garden officer A U Khan after Mayor Uma Shashi Sharma ordered action against the official for failing to properly maintain the area around the statues of eminent personalities installed in the City.
In a letter to the Commissioner, the Mayor pointed out that maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of green patches around the statues was the horticulture department’s responsibility. As Khan has patently failed to do so, the letter added, action must be taken against him.
Sharma, in fact, himself came under fire in a missive fired by the Mayor on Tuesday for failing to enforce wearing of identity cards by Corporation staff. The letter went on to point out that as both permanent and temporary employees have been issued I-cards, care must be taken to ensure that everyone wears these during duty hours.
The Mayor fired off a third missive to Mayor-in-Council (MiC) member in charge of building permission and her personal bete noir Chandu Shinde lambasting him for the rapidly proliferating number of kiosks. “The illegal kiosks not only hinder traffic, but also mar the City’s beauty. Despite the growing number of complaints your department has failed to take cognisance of the situation. As in charge you are directed to take immediate remedial steps by ensuring that the gumtis are removed,” concluded the missive.
